Fall 2019 LWMS Rally Letter

Central African Medical Mission (CAMM)
Lutheran Mobile Clinic (Malawi) and Lutheran Mission Rural Health Centre (Zambia)
Fall 2019 Update

“Now thank we all our God, With hearts and hands and voices, Who wondrous things has done, In whom his world rejoices.”   These words from the hymn, “Now Thank We All Our God” (CW 610), remind me of fall, autumn and Thanksgiving and here we are at Fall Rally time for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS).  On behalf of the Central Africa Medical Mission (CAMM) and the CAMM Stateside Committee, I want to thank all of you who have had interest in, support of and love and prayers offered for CAMM.  Through all of these, you make a difference to thousands who would receive little or no healthcare and now can receive Christ-centered healthcare which supports Gospel ministry.  God in His love and mercy has been so very gracious to us in 2019, and here are some of the blessings given by Him and CAMM supporters for which we are so thankful:
    • Alisad Banda, a Zambia national, who became our Clinic Administrator in Mwembezhi, Zambia at the Lutheran Mission Rural Health Center.  This is an important step in nationalizing the clinic and turning much of the daily operations over to the Zambians guided by Alisad with his talents and gifts and strong Christian values.
    • Gary Evans, who serves as our Clinic Administrator in Malawi and has taken on the additional title of Field Director of both Malawi and Zambia and the responsibilities that come with it.  Gary will help in the transitions with Alisad and in the process of nationalizing in Zambia.
    • Beth Evans, our Nurse Administrator, who faithfully guides the Lutheran Mobile Clinic in Malawi which involves the day to day challenges of visiting four mobile clinic sites each week and the extra tasks she assumes with Gary being gone to Zambia at times.
    • A gift from a charity group in Hong Kong helping provide the vehicle needed for Zambia.
    • A grant from a global giving company which help cover the cost of the new ambulance which was needed and arrived in June in Malawi to be used to transport staff and medical supplies to each of the four mobile clinic sites.
    • Christian Aid and Relief approved requests for funds to cover clinic renovations, which are taking place at several sites and borehole repair/re-drilling needed for safe water supply.
    • Donations and gifts from CAMM supporters which provides salaries for approximately 30 national workers between the two fields, housing for our expats, the Evans, fuels costs, medicines, supplies and the list goes on.
    • God’s protection during the severe flooding that hit Malawi which resulted in minimal damage for CAMM compared to many areas affected extremely hard.
    • Most certainly one of our constant blessings is the gift of service from our CAMM Contact Women (CW).  The CW are vital to CAMM and are truly a supportive arm to the mission outreach in Africa.  Their service helps to share the mission work with all WELS members thru communicating CAMM field monthly letters and CAMM updates and projects that can be supported.  If you are not receiving regular updates and learning more in-depth of what takes place as this mission work is done in Malawi and Zambia, consider serving as a Contact Women.  Please check the CAMM website at www.camm.us and look for your congregation name under a heading entitled “Contact Women Corner” - "Contact Women Vacancies” found on the left hand navigation bar.  The information is arranged by state and in alphabetical order.  If you have any questions regarding this Contact Women aspect of CAMM, please contact me, Cheryl Valus - my information is listed at the end of this letter.  I would love to serve our Lord and CAMM alongside you as we grow in and support this mission work to the people of Malawi and Zambia.
    • So many of our CAMM supporters are always so generously willing to help with specific needs/projects that our fields request.  A recent list has been sent out to the current CW.  If you would like one of them, please email me and I would be happy to send one for your or the congregation’s use.  At this time, we are continuing to hold on sending pill bottles to either field until they use more of the inventory they currently have on hand.  The two staffs feel they may be ready to have more sent in the fall time frame.  I will be letting the Contact Women know when that time arrives.  Again, feel free to contact me with regard to projects you or your congregation may be interested in supporting.
The joy and thankfulness for all the support, prayers and love that CAMM has received is always found in the knowledge that we know that God is in control of all things and we prayerfully use the talents and resources placed in our trust to His glory and that His will be done.

Zikomo!  I thank you again in the language of the Malawian people for all you have supported CAMM with and will continue to, Lord willing, in the future.  We thank God for all of you.  Blessings on your LWMS rally.

In Christ’s Service,

Cheryl Valus
